F(r)iend Series: Elvis x Memphis Mafia

Cory Danziger, 2024

24"x 18" on Archival Paper

I love the music of the Misfits.  Their visuals have always intrigued me.  They are so effective.  Simple and powerful.  In particular, the image of the Fiend (The Crimson Ghost) that pops up on shirts, posters, records and lots of tattoos is one of the best visuals in rock history.  To me, the Fiend represented impending death.  It was part grim reaper and partly an x-ray machine to showcase the humanity in each of us.

For the F(r)iend series, I took liberties, big ones.  I spotted impending doom historically, and showcased that the Fiend was present and hard at-work.  The foreboding element of death and the gatekeepers to death are around each of us.  These works are meant to be proof of that.
