The Richard Simmons Portraits

 

Richard Simmons was part fitness instructor part motivational speaker. He was a mainstay on television my entire life. I was always fascinated by him and his boundless love for people. In particular, he cared about those that were forgotten about and often overlooked in society, those dealing with weight loss challenges. He cared about them, protected them, and helped them. This was his life's mission, and he took it seriously. Where many people turned their backs to the plight of those suffering from obesity, Richard Simmons embraced these people and loved them in a very authentic way. He was the "best" of us.

 

And now he's gone. His passing in 2024 left a giant hole, bigger than many of us realized. A tribute series became important to me as I wanted to showcase his energy in portrait.
